The Manhattan City Commission on Tuesday will hear budget requests from outside agencies.

City officials turned Tuesday’s work session into a special meeting, which will be at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

The city government annually provides financial assistance to various community agencies, Aggieville Business Association, Downtown Manhattan Inc., Manhattan Arts Center, Riley County Historical Society-Wolf House, Manhattan Area Technical College, Flint Hills Area Transportation on Agency Inc. and Prairie Paws Animal Shelter. Manhattan Public Library also will present its budget at this meeting.

The city also has a contract with the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce for economic development services as well as the Convention and Visitors Bureau for tourism and convention services.

In 2023, the city entered into a grant agreement with Manhattan Area Technical College (MATC) to provide support for the construction of their new Advanced Technology Center (ATC). The ATC is designed to help MATC meet workforce demands in the trades.

The 2025 request of $200,000 is the second of five annual installments for a total of $1 million granted toward the project from 2024 to 2028. Payments will be paid from the 2023 Economic Development Recovery and Relief Sales Tax Funds.

The city agenda also includes an update from the Riley County Police Department and general fund overview.
