The Riley County elections division will move into its new home later this week.

County clerk Rich Vargo on Monday told county commissioners that his office will close Thursday as elections staff members move to the fourth floor of the Courthouse Plaza East building at 115 North 4th St.

The county clerk’s office is set to reopen Friday once the transition process is complete.

“That of course has a domino effect on the amount of staff that we have available for customers on the front lines of the clerk’s office,” Vargo said.

The move was a factor in the decision to end the sale of Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks permits out of the county clerks office on July 1.

“We just will not have the staff once we move the elections division because three of the elections division people …sat on the front lines, and they were the ones providing that service,” Vargo said.

The building will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Fridays.

“Staff will be busy for sure,” Vargo said.
