The first of a series of Pottawatomie County candidate forums took place in Wamego Thursday evening. Six candidates were featured where they answered questions and spoke about the reasons why they’re running for office.

Voters will also elect a new Pottawatomie County Sherriff to replace Shane Jager. Doug Adams, the current undersheriff, and Derek Cid, the current St. Marys Police Chief are the two Republican candidates running against each other for the position.

Cid said he has a wide variety of law enforcement experience, and always conducts himself with a conservative approach…

Adams said his 22 years with the sheriff’s office has shown him how the department needs to operate…

Voters will also elect a new Pottawatomie County Attorney. Democrat Chris Biggs will challenge Republican John Paul Washburn in that race.

Additional forums are planned for June 18 in St. George, July 1 in Westmoreland, July 11 in St. Marys and July 15 in Onaga. The primary takes place August 6th.
