A member of the Riley County Law Board has announced his candidacy for the open 67th legislative district left vacated by retiring state Rep. Mike Dodson.
Kaleb James announced his candidacy just prior to Monday’s filing deadline as he’ll run for the Republican nomination for the seat. He joins Republican Angel Roeser and Democrat Kim Zito in the battle for the seat.
James says he’s running after receiving vocal support from his constituents and close friends.
James said that he expects the primary between himself and Angel Roeser to be an interesting one.
James has frequently sought public office in the past, running four times for the Manhattan City Commission from 2015 to 2021.
He spoke about the issues in Topeka saying that the politicians tend to focus more on themselves than the people.
James, along with Roeser, are the Republicans filed for this seat. Kim Zito, a Democrat, and the district’s runner-up two years ago is the other candidate filed to run for this seat. The 67th district encompasses most of Manhattan.
James currently resides in Manhattan and is graduate of Junction City High School as well as former soldier in the US Army. He has a wife and three children.
