Parks and Rec Advisory Board advances recommendation on Move MHK! Plan to the City Commission

The Manhattan Parks and Rec Board voted Monday to send a recommendation to the City Commission on the Move MHK! Plan that will be considered on June 18.
The commission was somewhat divided on the plan, stating that while they had received a basic rundown of the plan, there were still many questions with it due to the length of the presentation which was over 500 pages.
There is also precedent with plans like this failing as it did in 2008 according to board member Ed Klimek, who voted to send the recommendation to the city but offered advice on how to get community support behind it.

Board member Joe Knopp was not as supportive, warning the city could face serious financial issues if the plan fails and people don’t show up.

Board member Dave Schafer also opposed the plan. He elaborated further.

Board member Greg Hoyt was supportive of the plan although he did have some reservations.

The final vote was 5-2. The recommendation now advances over to the City Commission for a full vote.
