Randolph PRIDE is headlined by its antique car show. Event organizer Duane Scardina said that the show neared records for attendance.
“This is our 24th year and it looks like it’s going to be a beautiful day,” he remarked. “In fact, it looks like we’re nearing our record for attendance.
Hundreds of cars made there way to Randolph with cars as old as 100 to cars as new as last year. The event featured of a best-of choice with prizes as well as a 50/50 raffle with some of the proceeds going towards a scholarship for a Blue Valley Randolph High School senior.
Brad Starnes, candidate for the 22nd Senate district, was one of those in the show, with his Chevy Chevelle.
“We’ve had it for about three years now,” he said. “We realized what good is it just sitting in the garage and we bought it to drive it, so let’s have some fun with it.”
Keith Boller of Junction City showed off his 1969 Chevy Camaro that is colored Chiefs red.
“I’m a big fan of the Chiefs as you can tell,” he said as he pointed to his Chiefs stickers on the vehicle. “In fact my license plate says MY HOMES.”
Myra Scardina is one of the event’s volunteers and spoke more about the car show’s 50/50 raffle.
“Half of the proceeds go towards next year’s show,” she said. “We also give away a scholarship to a senior at Blue Valley High School.”
Gabe Ramirez is another volunteer and spoke about some of the prizes that are given away at the car show.
“We give away goodie bags and every contestant gets a free meal card,” he said.
The event also has a kid’s “Best Of” show that sees children pick out their favorite cars as well. Ramirez said that they also get prizes from it as well.
