For the foreseeable future, the Kansas 6A girls’ golf championship trophy will have a navy and red reflection in the hallways of Manhattan High School.

In runaway fashion, the Manhattan High girls’ golf squad clinched the state championship title, carding a team total of 593 strokes — 29 strokes ahead of runner-up Shawnee Mission East.

In the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, the Indians were a golf powerhouse in the state of Kansas, winning 11 titles from 1985 to 2008. It may have taken 16 years to add the school’s 12th title, but that made Tuesday’s win even more sweet.
