By KMAN Staff on December 27, 2024 State News

The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) has published its 2024 Christmas Holiday Activity Report, covering incidents and enforcement from 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24, through 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, December 25. During the period, KHP personnel assisted 218 motorists and responded to one fatal crash in Doniphan County, which was not DUI-related.

    Key Statistics

The report compares 2024 data to previous years:

    • DUI Arrests: 7, unchanged from 2023.
    • Speed Citations: Decreased to 227 from 370 in 2023.
    • Safety Belt Citations (Adult): Dropped to 14 from 21 in 2023.
    • Motorist Assists: Declined to 218 compared to 449 in 2023.
    • Fatal Crashes: One non-DUI-related crash occurred, resulting in one fatality.

While the number of speed citations and motorist assists declined, KHP continues to emphasize the importance of safe driving during the holiday season.

    Reminders for Motorists

The Kansas Highway Patrol urges all drivers to prioritize safety by wearing seatbelts, adhering to speed limits, and avoiding impaired driving. Holiday travel can be challenging, and these practices are crucial for reducing accidents and fatalities.
