RCPD director: Despite perception, crime down in November

    By Emma Loura

RCPD director Brian Peete on Thursday told Riley County commissioners crime in Riley County in November was 18% below the five-year average, though he acknowledged it may not seem that way to residents.

“Now I know saying that, actual stats and perception of crime are two entirely different things,” Peete said. “For the last few months, we have seen a sharp increase in crimes that were related to firearms. We have seen some homicides. We have seen some stabbings. We have seen several different things, but overall, the percentage is down from the five-year average.”

Peete said as of his most recent report, crime was projected to be 17% below the five-year average year-to-date, though he said it may look closer to 12% below average.
