Manhattan city commissioners on Tuesday will decide whether they’ll authorize officials to hand over part of a city-owned lot downtown to Manhattan Housing Authority for construction of a 62-unit housing facility for to low- to moderate-income senior citizens.
City officials have split the lot at the corner of Fifth and Pierre streets in two, with the western half set aside for use by Manhattan Housing Authority. If commissioners pass the resolution Tuesday, the mayor and city clerk will be able to execute a land transfer to Manhattan Housing Authority once it has received a building permit for the Sunflower Flats project.
The eastern half of the lot will remain a city-owned parking lot, though Manhattan Housing Authority will be allowed to use it for construction staging. Once the Sunflower Flats project is complete, Manhattan Housing Authority will rebuild the lot to city standards.
