Officials shared that and other planned changes at an event Tuesday to discuss the university’s master plan and seek feedback on it. Attendees left their thoughts with an online form or sticky notes.

K-State recently demolished the Ahearn Natatorium and attached gymnasium but kept the 1950 field house building, which for many years was the site of basketball, volleyball and indoor track events. Until now, officials haven’t released plans for the building.

“I think Ahearn has a lot of memories for a lot of alumni, and I think there are a lot of interesting things we can do with that,” said Neal Kessler, senior principal of the planning firm Smithgroup. “One of the things I think we have settled on on is this idea that Ahearn Field House can still operate similarly to what it does today and even have some other events in it.”
