    Manhattan cyclist struck by vehicle, seriously injured on K-113

    A 54-year-old cyclist was seriously injured Sunday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle on K-113 near Top of the World Drive, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

    The crash occurred at approximately 12:59 p.m. when a 2025 Chevrolet Trax, driven by 19-year-old William J. Bartunek of Lincoln, Nebraska, veered onto the shoulder and struck the cyclist, identified as Eugene Thomas Rice of Manhattan, Kansas.

    Rice sustained serious injuries and was transported to Ascension Via Christi Hospital for treatment. Authorities noted that Rice was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

    Bartunek and a passenger, 19-year-old Luke Christian Hampton, were both uninjured. They were wearing seat belts.
