Manhattan High head baseball coach Don Hess reacts in the dugout during the Indians’ 6-4 win over Emporia in the first game of a doubleheader on May 15 at Norvell Field in Manhattan.

LAWRENCE — At their best during the 2025 baseball season, the Manhattan Indians hit liners into gaps and showed speed at key positions to go first-to-third offensively and play what Tribe junior third baseman Brayson Gnirk called the best defensive setup around the state.

The team’s power and speed were on display in the bottom of the third during Friday’s 6A state third-place affair. Carter Aslin bats at the top of the order and this season set the MHS program mark for stolen bases, extended to 33 with his theft of third against Blue Valley. Aslin can scoot like a roadrunner on desert floor and batted around .440 this season.
