Courtesy of Bill Spiegel Manhattan High tennis player Jay Hoke reaches out for a forehand during a match in the Indians’ season-opening tournament held in April at Washburn Rural in Topeka. Hoke earned a individual regional championship on Saturday in Topeka, while Manhattan as a team placed second.

The entire Manhattan High tennis team is headed to state after a strong performance in Saturday’s regional tournament held at Riverside Tennis Complex in Wichita.

It’s the first time since 2021 that the Indians qualified a full squad for state.

“Qualifying matches for state were two and a half to three and a half hours long, but they battled, they persevered through some tough situations, and just were a little bit tougher,” head coach Tony Ingram said. “They lasted through those matches and eventually qualified, so we’re very happy for them.”
