Pittsburg man pleads not guilty to child rape

    By Rose Gruenbacher

A Pittsburg man on Monday maintained his innocence in Riley County District Court, for a case in which he faces three counts of rape of a minor under 14 years old.

Jeffery Scott Bailey, 44, appeared before judge John Bosch for his arraignment. Bailey was arrested April 16 for five counts of rape against a girl he knows. Two of the counts have since been dropped, when a judge found there was insufficient evidence to support the claims.

Bailey has remained held in Riley County Jail since his arrest on a $75,000 bond. He has an additional bond of $10,000 for four counts of protection order violation against his wife, and the mother of the alleged rape victim. Per his wife’s request, Bosch granted a motion from Bailey’s defense attorneys lifting the protection order on his wife. Bailey still has a bond of $10,000 for that case.
