USD 383 gave final approval of a revised visitors policy on Wednesday, with the addition of creating an advisory committee to look into the issue of having Applied Behavioral Analysis therapists in the classroom.
A final report from this advisory committee is due by the end of November. The amended policy passed 7-0.
Board president Kristin Brighton clarified that this revised policy is not a ban on all ABA therapies, but a standardized policy on all third parties coming into the schools to work with students. The policy, as it was originally proposed, would restrict third party ABA therapists from classrooms as part of a change to the visitors’ policy. This is one of 23 policies the school board changed for the upcoming school year.
