Kansas State running back Joe Jackson scores a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s non-conference game against North Dakota at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The Wildcats beat the Fighting Hawks, 38-35.

A season that started with so much promise nearly spiraled into chaos two games in for No.17 Kansas State after a too-close-for-comfort 38-35 win over North Dakota Saturday evening.

After trading blows all game, the Wildcats needed 81 yards to avoid absolute disaster, down four with just over two minutes to play. They managed to pull off a 10-play drive in just over a minute, as Joe Jackson rumbled into the end zone on a six-yard pass after a huge 25-yard scramble by quarterback Avery Johnson.

The defense hung on, and the Wildcats secured their first win of the season and avoided an embarrassing and devastating loss.
