    Bond set at $7,500 for man accused of battering officer

    A Manhattan man was arrested Monday morning after allegedly battering a police officer during an incident on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

    Riley County Police filed a report just before 8:50 a.m. Sept. 8, stating that 35-year-old Wylee Schmit acted disorderly, interfered with an officer’s investigation, and struck an officer in the 500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. A 38-year-old man was listed as the victim.

    Schmit was arrested minutes later on charges of battery of a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and interference with law enforcement. He was issued a $7,500 bond and remains confined in the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.
