Crews respond to electrical fire at Manhattan youth center

No injuries were reported after a brief electrical fire was reported Tuesday morning at the Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan, located at 5th and Pierre Street.

The Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to the facility around 10:30 a.m. for a structure fire. Staff reportedly used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire in a bathroom. No children were in the facility at the time and all staff had evacuated prior to firefighters arriving on scene.

The fire department said the incident was a good reminder during fire prevention week to ensure fire extinguishers are accessible, but to only try to extinguish fires if it can be done safely.
