    Officers responded to a report of an injury crash near the intersection of 11th Street and Moro Street in Manhattan on Oct. 9, 2025, at approximately 12:05 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found that a pedestrian, Madison Asbury, 19, of Manhattan, had been hit while crossing 11th Street in the crosswalk by a 2019 Ford F-350 driven by Michael Smith, 25, of Manhattan. Asbury was transported to Stormont Vail in Topeka with serious injuries. Smith was arrested at approximately 12:35 p.m. in the 1000 block of Seth Child Road and charged with aggravated battery and failure to stop at an accident. He was issued a total bond of $12,000 and remains confined in the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.

    Officers responded to a report of a fatality crash near in the 12000 block of Green-Randolph Road in Riley County on Oct. 9, at approximately 11:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found that a 2017 Buick Encore driven by Sharon Sando, 74, of Leonardville, was in a single-car accident after veering off the road and rolling into a ditch. Sando was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Joseph Hodges, 50, of Manhattan, was arrested on Oct. 9, at approximately 11:18 a.m. in the 1000 block of Seth Child Road on a Riley County District Court warrant for probation violation. This arrest stems from an original charge of criminal threat. Hodges was issued no bond and remains confined in the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.

    Officers filed a report of burglary in the 2700 block of Heartland Valley Road on Oct. 9, at approximately 9:21 a.m. A 58-year-old man was listed as the victim when it was reported an unknown suspect entered his home and took watches, clothing and other items. The estimated total loss associated with this case is $50,000. Anyone with information, contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Using the Crime Stoppers service can allow you remain anonymous and could qualify you for a cash reward up to $1,000.

    Officers filed a report of vehicle theft in the 900 block of Colorado Street on Oct. 9, at approximately 8:15 a.m. A 21-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man were listed as victims when it was reported an unknown suspect stole their moped from the street. The estimated total loss associated with this case is $1,000.
