One person was transported to the hospital after a vehicle struck a pedestrian Saturday morning in downtown Manhattan.

Riley County Police officers responded to the report of an injury accident involving pedestrians around 10:01 a.m. Nov. 22 near the 400 block of Poyntz Avenue. Police said a 2015 Nissan Altima driven by 76-year-old Bimel Kanti Paul of Manhattan struck Edward Thompson, 82, of Manhattan, while he was in the crosswalk. Thompson then fell into another pedestrian, Susan Thompson, 82, also of Manhattan.

Edward Thompson was transported to Via Christi for treatment of minor injuries.

Paul was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way to pedestrians in the crosswalk, according to police.
