An 84-year-old Tipton woman died Tuesday morning following a two-vehicle crash in Mitchell County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at about 11:21 a.m. on K-181, near Timothy Trail. Troopers reported that a northbound 1991 Buick Century driven by 69-year-old Brian Christianson of Hunter attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone.

The second vehicle, a semi truck driven by 52-year-old Ronald Dubbert of Hebron, Nebraska, crossed the center line while negotiating a curve. The Buick left the roadway and struck the semi as it reentered the highway. The semi then went off the road and rolled into the east ditch.

An 84-year-old passenger in the semi, identified as Mary Dubbert of Tipton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ronald Dubbert was transported to Mitchell County Hospital with serious injuries. Christianson was not injured.

Authorities said all three occupants were wearing seat belts.
