    Manhattan store loses $1,740 in Bitcoin scam

    The Riley County Police Department is investigating a reported fraud incident involving a local retail store in Manhattan.

    Officers filed a report around 3:09 p.m. Nov. 20, 2025, in the 400 block of 3rd Place. Burlington Coat Factory was listed as the victim after an unknown male suspect allegedly called the store and instructed employees to remove money from the register and deposit it into a bitcoin machine.

    Police said the total estimated loss associated with the incident is $1,740.

    Anyone with information is asked to contact the Riley County Police Department or Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Tips submitted through Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may qualify the reporting party for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
