    Veterans Day parade continues tradition celebrating veterans and patriotism

    The lively sounds of brass and the sight of red, white and blue waving along Poyntz Avenue on Tuesday morning encouraged Manhattan to celebrate those who fought for American freedom.

    A Manhattan tradition since 1992, the Flint Hills Veterans Day Parade is the largest in the region. The Flint Hills Veterans Coalition organizes the event, which is completely volunteer-run.

    “It’s focused around spreading patriotism to the next generation, which is what the founders of the Flint Hills Veterans Coalition intended from this parade,” said Chuck Sexton, a volunteer.
