A 26-year-old Newton man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday night in Geary County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash occurred at about 9:50 p.m. on Dec. 24 on U.S. Highway 77 southbound near mile marker 150, about 0.7 mile north of Lyon Creek Road.

The patrol reported that a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox traveling southbound left the roadway to the west and continued in the west ditch before coming to rest facing southbound.

The driver, identified as Joshua Mercer of Newton, was not wearing a safety restraint at the time of the crash, according to the report. He was transported to Stormont Vail Health Flint Hills in Junction City with suspected serious injuries.
