After four straight losses and back-to-back home setbacks, Kansas State men’s basketball finally found the opponent — and the rhythm — it needed.
Playing the lowest-ranked team in Division I, No. 365 Mississippi Valley State, the Wildcats (6-4) cruised to a 108–49 win on Monday night at Bramlage Coliseum.
“Yesterday was probably a bigger blessing than today, in how they responded in film, in walkthrough, and in meeting with guys individually — and then them having a team meeting,” head coach Jerome Tang said. “Just some really good things that let us know we have the right guys.”
It was a game framed by context. MVSU’s only win came against Mississippi University for Women, and the Delta Devils entered as the bottom team in both KenPom and Torvik. But for a K-State squad searching for confidence after a rough two-week stretch, the game mattered more.
The win snapped K-State’s four-game slide and produced several historic marks. It was the 42nd 100-point game in school history and the fourth under Tang. The 59-point margin tied for the third-largest in program history and was the biggest since 2008. The Wildcats’ 19 made 3-pointers were the third-most ever at K-State, and their 30 assists tied for the second-most in school history.
