A man’s dog stayed by his side through the end, a Riley County Police Department spokesperson said on Monday, confirming an unattended death at a local dog park on Dec. 19.

An unnamed 75-year-old man was found dead in the dog park at Tuttle Creek State Park river pond at 2:50 p.m. Police said the man was found with his dog close by, and a dead raccoon also in close proximity.

Police said the investigation into the man’s death is ongoing, but there is no danger to the public and no reason to believe another person was involved in the death.
