5 p.m Sunday update
A Manhattan man is in critical condition, after an officer-involved shooting Saturday involving deputies from the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, two deputies from the Sheriff’s Office were responding to a call shortly after 3 p.m. from a homeowner on Josie Lane whose shed and garage had been damaged by gunfire. While taking the report, they heard gunshots in the area.
Additional shots were noted as deputies approached a home at 8655 Josie Lane where they believed the shots were coming from. As they approached, deputies reportedly identified themselves and began giving the shooter commands.
A man, later identified as 38-year-old Brian Lovgren, came out of the house armed with a handgun. A deputy fired multiple shots at Lovgren, striking him. Lovgren was transported to a Kansas City hospital, where he underwent surgery. He remains in critical condition.
No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
KBI says once they conclude their investigation, case findings will be presented to the Pottawatomie County Attorney for determination of charges. The investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities are investigating after a man was injured in an officer-involved shooting Saturday afternoon in east Manhattan.
According to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, deputies from the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:50 p.m. to a report of shots fired at a residence on Josie Lane, when a man was shot.
The man was transported to an area hospital for treatment. KBI said no law enforcement officers were injured.
Further details, including the man’s identity were not immediately provided.
The case remains under further investigation.
