The Junction City Fire department was dispatched just before 6 p.m. Sunday, to 1537 W. Ash Street, the West Ridge Apartments.

Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke and visible flames coming from the rear of the building. Crews were able to isolate it to the third floor attic space and brought it under control shortly after 6 p.m.

No serious injuries were reported, however 13 occupants were displaced. The fire department said four of the six units are a total loss. Damage is estimated at $100,000. The total value of the building is approximately $275,000.

The cause has been ruled accidental following an investigation by the Junction City Fire Department.

Assistance was provided by the Fort Riley and Geary County fire departments.
