A new cultural center is coming to the Yuma Street Historic District.
The building at 930 Yuma Street, historically known as Shepard’s Chapel, is being repurposed into a space for community gatherings and small business growth. The group behind the project is the local nonprofit, Black Entrepreneurs of the Flint Hills.
“The historic landmark is once again being restored with renewed purpose,” mayor Susan Adamchak said Tuesday at an event marking the project’s official launch. “It will be a catalyst for opportunity and community growth that will serve both the Yuma Street neighborhood, and the city of Manhattan as a whole.”
