RCPD filed a report for theft by deception Wednesday afternoon after a 31-year-old man was falsely issued a lease. The report was filed just after 3:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Vattier Street and lists the male as the victim after a subject known to him issued him a lease and then secured a deposit from him falsely. The total loss associated with this report is $1500.

Several counties in Northeast Kansas are set to be in red flag warnings today due to high winds that could exceed 40 miles per hour. Currently, Riley, Pottawatomie, Geary and Wabaunsee Counties will be under a red flag warning from 11 a.m. this morning until 8 p.m. tonight. Also, Pottawatomie and Riley Counties have burn bans in place due to the high winds. Pottawatomie County’s burn ban is in effect until Saturday morning.

A Wichita woman is being held in jail after her arrest in Riley County Tuesday for probation violation. Elivia Richards, 19, was arrested on a Sedgwick County warrant on two counts of violating her probation, just before 5:30 on Tuesday afternoon. Richards is currently confined on a bond of $1 million at the time of this report. Due to the warrant being in a different county, RCPD was unable to provide further details on the case at this time. Kansas senator Roger Marshall has announced he has launched a Medicare Open Enrollment webpage for seniors. The open enrollment period, which began on Tuesday, goes through Saturday Dec. 7 and Marshall’s new website hopes to help Kansas seniors navigate the open enrollment season by researching Medicare benefit plans, find resources for benefits counseling, learn about avoiding scams and read about other important information related to Medicare Open Enrollment. Kansas seniors with questions about open enrollment or Medicare in general are encouraged to contact Sen. Marshall’s office in Salina at 785-829-9000 to speak with a casework specialist.

With two years remaining on her second term, the Gov. Laura Kelly is looking to accomplish several things. Someone reportedly stole campaign signs supporting Linda Morse — and those of other local and national Democratic candidates — from yards on Casement Road in the Northview area over the weekend. Morse, a former Manhattan mayor, is running for House District 51 against Republican Megan Steele.
