The driver of a car that crashed through two Manhattan homes has died as a result of their injuries. According to RCPD, the incident took place in the 1100 block of Yuma Street. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which first collided with a house and then continued into a second home. In this second home, the vehicle struck a 23-year-old man who was sleeping in his bed. The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was killed in the crash. A female passenger in the vehicle was unharmed. The 23-year-old victim was initially trapped under the car…

A local man is in jail following his arrest on Monday afternoon for possession of a stimulant and failure to appear. Brian Flanary, 45 of Manhattan, was arrested on probable cause charges just after 1:30 pm in the 5300 block of Tuttle Creek Boulevard. Flanary is charged with two counts of failure to appear, one count of possession of a stimulant while having a prior conviction for the charge and one count of interference with law enforcement. Flanary remains confined in jail on a bond of $54,500.

The 10th annual Everybody Counts event is set to return later this summer. Organizer Deb Nuss said the event was formed ten years ago following a report delivered to the USD 383 Board of Education on homeless children in the school district. “At the time, there were about 250 children reporting as homeless in the district,” she said. “We put together the event to provide them with services they may not have access to.” The first event was held back in 2014 at the First United Methodist Church and has only expanded since it was first held. The Manhattan Housing Authority announced on Friday that they had secured a $16.5 million low-income housing tax credit from the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation for the Sunflower Flats project. “We are incredibly grateful to the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation for their support and investment in our community,” said executive director Aaron Estabrook. “This LIHTC allocation will allow us to further our mission of providing quality housing that meets the needs of our residents, while also promoting economic stability and community development.” The funds come from state and federal dollars and will be used to develop senior housing for low and…

K-State is reporting that their online software is working this morning even with the on-going CrowdStrike software issues that are going on worldwide. In a campus-wide email, director of news and communication services Michelle Geering reported that university operations are running normal at this time and the university is only getting reports of computer by computer issues. K-State systems are also available online. If anyone experiences issues, the university encourages those to contact IT. K-State continues to monitor the issue at this time.

A former member of the Pottawatomie County Commission is looking to return after being away from the commission for nearly ten years. Gary Yenzer, who served on the commission from 2010-2014 in the 1st district, is running in the newly formed 4th district as a Republican. Yenzer spoke more about why he’s running for the county commission. Yenzer also spoke about the issue of solar, something he supports.
