RCPD is investigating a report of theft at Walmart. Officers filed a report on Sunday afternoon just before 4:30 p.m. that two unknown suspects – a male and a female, scanned items but did not pay for them and then showed a fake receipt before leaving the store. Total loss from the crime is over $2,500. Anyone with further information can contact Crime Stoppers.

The Minnesota Twins have selected Kansas State shortstop Kaelen Culpepper with the 21st overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. The All-American shortstop who batted to a .328 AVG with .933 OPS and 11 homers to go along with 59 RBIs this past season becomes the second player ever in K-State baseball history to be taken in the first round of the draft. KANSAS CITY — The Kansas City Royals have added some much needed help to their bullpen. On Saturday, Kansas City added Washington Nationals relief pitcher Hunter Harvey in a trade that sent minor league third baseman Cayden Wallace and the 39th overall pick in Sunday’s First Year Player Draft to D.C. Harvey, 29 and a former first-round selection of the Baltimore Orioles, has made 43 appearances this season with Washington posting a 4.20 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched. The 21st annual Battle of the Badges blood drive was held on Thursday and Friday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Manhattan with Manhattan Fire Department taking home the title with 68 votes, their third championship in four years. Turnout was solid once more this year on Thursday. USD 475 Board of Education announced on Friday that they have approved the hiring of Kimbre Smice as the new principal at Fort Riley Elementary. Smice is set to take over for longtime principal Kenny Upham who was recently named the academy principal of Business, Public Service and Hospitality Academy at Junction City High School. Smice has been in the district since 2011, working at Fort Riley Middle School and Seitz Elementary. She has previously worked at Fort Riley Elementary and is currently at Ware Elementary. Dension Avenue will be closing down on Monday for at least the next two weeks between Anderson and Claflin. Crews hope to have the project completed by Thursday Jul. 25 as a concrete base is repaired followed by some paving. The official detour will be Sunset Avenue from Anderson to Claflin. The names of the four finalists for Manhattan City Manager have been released to the public. The candidates will be Jacob Wood, Jamie Miller, Jason Gage and Danielle Dulin. Two men were injured in an accident in Geary County on Wednesday evening. Geary County Sheriff’s Deputies responded just 5 pm to I-70 in the eastbound lane near the exit ramp at milemarker 303 to find a two-vehicle injury accident. Edward Huddlestun of Manhattan was at the stop sign at the intersection for Clarks Creek and the K-18 bypass when his motorcycle was hit by a 2016 Ford Fusion driven by Clayton Southers of Lost Springs.
