Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s were alerted on Wednesday to a possible exploitation of a child. Detectives and deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded to the report in the 400 block of East 1st Street in Eskridge on Wednesday where they made contact with 24-year-old Manuel Bailey of Eskridge. Following a further investigation, deputies took Bailey custody on a charges of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and aggravated child endangerment. Pottawatomie County ECODEVO provided an update on Wednesday on the closure of Caterpillar in Wamego. Executive director Shanna Goodman announced that a regional task force convened earlier in the week to discuss the ramifications of the closure and strategize moving forward. In the task force’s plan, they look to find support for affected workers and market the facility being left open by Caterpillar. The task force has also been in contact with state and federal officials to ensure they leverage all available resources. Goodman says these discussions have been productive. As primary elections near, Riley County Clerk Rich Vargo is reminding residents to get registered to vote for the Aug. 6 primary election. “The voter registration deadline for the primary is Jul. 16,” Vargo said. “If you want to vote in Riley County, you need to make sure you’re registered in the county. Geary County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating the theft of a 4-wheeler. Deputies responded just prior to 6 p.m. on Tuesday to the 500 block of Airport Road in Junction City Airport in reference to a stolen 4-wheeler that was used to damage fields around the area between K-57 highway at mile marker 6 and Elm Dale Road. The case remains under investigation at this time.

A Junction City man was sentenced to time in the Kansas Department of Corrections for his role in a Jan. 2023 kidnapping in Manhattan. Zane Thomas, 29, was arrested for aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery and aggravated assault along with two others back in 2023 after they kidnapped a 26-year-old man and repeatedly beat him while they drove him around in a car against his will. Thomas ultimately pled guilty to charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault with a firearm and a criminal threat back on May 20. RCPD filed two reports for theft on Monday. Officers filed a report of motor vehicle theft in the 300 block of Manhattan Ave just after 7:30 am. Officers listed a 19-year-old female as the victim when it was reported her 2007 brown Ford Edge was stolen by an unknown suspect. Total loss associated with this report is around $7,000. A Rose Hill man has been arrested for attempting to flee law enforcement. 30-year-old Cody Adams was arrested just before 1:30 pm at the Riley County Jail for fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement by engaging in reckless driving. Adams is also charged with one count of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the 2nd time he’s been charged with such offense, one count of reckless driving, one count of failing to report an accident with an unattended vehicle or property and one count of going the maximum speed limit. The right lane of eastbound I-70 in Dickinson County is closed near the Abilene exit due to repairs. The lane is closed down for concrete repair. Crews from KDOT are removing and replacing damaged concrete in the outer lane. The project is expected to completed by August depending on the weather. KDOT crews are reminding folks to slow down and obey the warning signs when approaching or driving through the work zone.
