With the 4th of July just a week away, the Manhattan Fire Department is reminding folks to practice safety when using fireworks. Manhattan Fire Department Fire Marshal Jake Powell spoke more about how fireworks should be used reminding folks to make smart and safe decisions. A Junction City woman was arrested following a traffic stop late Wednesday for a slew of drug possession charges. 39-year-old Angel Morgan was arrested just before 4 pm at the intersection of North 4th and Leavenworth Streets on probable cause charges. She is charged with one count of use or possession of drug paraphenelia with intent to use in the human body, one count of possession of a stimulant while being previously convicted of such charge, one count to distribute or possess heroin and certain stimulants and one count of driving a motor vehicle without a valid license. K-State shortstop Kaelan Culpepper has been named to the D1Baseball All-American Second Team. Culpepper becomes the first position player in school history to earn All-American status from the outlet, while he is the second Wildcat to be recognized in the Pete Hughes era. Culpepper finished fifth in the Big 12 during the regular season in RBI, sixth in hits and led the conference in triples. With his 11 homers this year, he jumped to 10th all-time in school history, finishing with 26 during his career. The First Thousand Members Club will be hosting its first annual Harmony Fest in Junction City coming up in late August. The organization which was founded as a non-profit organization to connect Haitians together living in the Junction City area. Two were injured after a semitruck overturned due to high winds in Wabaunsee County early Wednesday morning. The Kansas Highway Patrol were the first to respond to the accident. The crash was reported just after 3:15 am on eastbound I-70 about a mile east of Keene-Eskridge Road, which is about 12 miles west of Topeka. Reports say that a semitrailer was headed east on I-70 when it overturned due to the high winds. The semi came to a rest partially in the south ditch and partially in the right lane of the highway. A Manhattan man is in jail following his arrest at the Manhattan Municipal Courthouse. 59-year-old Jeffrey Tinnean was arrested on probable cause charges just before 9:30 am at the courthouse on one count of aggravated battery by recklessly causing bodily harm by trying to disfigure, harm or kill with a deadly weapon. He was also charged with single counts of domestic battery, the second time he’s been charged with that offense in the last five years and stalking with reckless conduct causing fear to a person or family. As of this afternoon, 3100 customers remain without power in Northeast Kansas. Manhattan was hardly affected by these outages, with under 5 customers affected by the storms. Topeka has the most customers without power with around 1900 customers still without power.
