Some Riley County government offices will start to operate on a new schedule starting on Jul. 1. At Monday’s county meeting, commissioners agreed to a change on a four-month trial basis that will last from Jul. 1 to Nov. 1. Overall, the appraiser’s office, the county clerk and election’s office, treasurer and motor vehicles,. planning and development, environmental health, register of deeds, Riley County K-State Extension and community corrections will all be under a new schedule beginning at 7:30 am and open until 5 pm Mondays through Thursdays while being open from 7:30 to noon on Fridays. The Riley County Clerk’s Office will no longer be selling KDWP Licenses and Permits effective Jul. 1. This change will also include hunting and fishing licenses as well as boat registrations. The clerk’s office has decided to no longer sell KDWP licenses so they can focus more on their primary duties according to county clerk Rich Vargo. Vargo said that the office also processes very few of these licenses as they’re readily availiable on the internet as well as at other locations. Pottawatomie County officials will host a town hall meeting for residents affected by the Apr. 30 tornado on Jun. 30. The meeting will be on the day of the 2-month anniversary of the storm and will be held at the Westmoreland Community Center at 202 Main Street in Westmoreland. Dinner and daycare will be provided. The Flint Hills Breadbasket recently announced their intention to move away from their longtime location at 905 Yuma Street to 2326 Sky-Vue and 620 Rosencutter in Manhattan. Flint Hills Breadbasket executive director Karla Hagemeister explained the reasoning for the move. She says that the building is being “handed down” from a company that has long been a staple in the Little Apple. The new space triples the current size of the Yuma Street facility. Kansas lawmakers have announced that they have reached an agreement on the much-debated tax relief package. Leaders in the Kansas legislature and Gov. Laura Kelly released a joint statement on Thursday evening affirming their agreement on the package. The package agreed to remains mostly unchanged from the previous packages, keeping the two-tiered income bracket that the legislature supported, as well as tax cuts for Social Security and includes many exemptions like a property tax cut. The legislation also looks to fulfill Kelly’s goal of being paid for. Kelly says that the legislation should not cost more than $425 million annually…
The Geary County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-car accident on K-177 on Thursday evening. Officers responded to the scene just before 9:30 pm to find a Chrysler Town and Country van had collided with a deer. The vehicle had been traveling northbound on the highway near milemaker 92. The driver Dalton Matthews of Dwight was not injured. The owner of the vehicle made arrangements to have the vehicle moved following the accident.

The Chinese restaurant in Aggieville Hunam Express has closed down. Executive director of the Aggieville Business District Dennis Cook says that the restaurant is expected to be replaced. “They’re in a remodel mode,” he said. “Hunam is going to become a breakfast place called Full Circle.” Cook also mentioned that Gordo’s, the former Mexican restaurant that closed down last year will be replaced by a new Mexican restaurant called 1800 Tacos and Tequila. The Big 12 is considering a private equity investment, something that has never been considered in the history of college athletics. The conference is currently in discussions with a Luxemborg based equity firm CVC that could give the conference anywhere between $800 million to $1 billion in exchange for anywhere between 15 to 20 percent stake of the league with a portion of the money to the conference’s 16 teams.
