Manhattan city commissioners have been recently discussing bringing a sales tax question that would take the city’s current 1% sales tax to as much as 2% to help replenish the General Fund cash balance on the August ballot. The balance dropped $6 million between January 2023 and January 2024. A Marysville woman was arrested on Saturday morning outside of Porter’s Bar in Aggieville for interference with law enforcement. 35-year-old Alyssa Rittmiller was arrest around 1:58 am in the 700 block of North Manhattan Avenue outside of Porter’s Bar in Aggieville. She is charged with one count of interference with law enforcement by resisting the execution of a misdemeanor search warrant and one count of unlawful interference with emergency medical services. According to RCPD public information officer Ashley Tokoi, Rittmiller was asked repeatedly by officers to give space to her ex-husband who was receiving medical attention inside of Porter’s. She…

A Leavenworth County prison inmate has been convicted of voluntary manslaughter. 30-year-old Richey Ray Farmer was convicted for his role in the death of fellow inmate Scott Wilson back in Aug. 2021. According to a press release from the Leavenworth County Attorney’s Office, Farmer hit Wilson with a plastic food tray as well as used his feet to kill Wilson. Farmer later claimed in court he used the tray as self defense. Leavenworth County attorney Todd Thompson said that the county attorney’s office appreciated the legal process that allows for jury to determine guilt or innocence.
