The KC World Cup committee recently presented to the Kansas Senate Commerce Committee to request around $30 million in state money to provide for training facilities as players get ready to play compete in 2026 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. State Sen. Usha Reddi, who sits on the Commerce Committee spoke about the vast opportunities that the World Cup can provide the state of Kansas. The Kansas State University Department of Agricultural Economics will be hosting the Kansas Farm and Ranch Transition conference in Manhattan on Mar. 8. The conference is designed to help farmers and ranchers plan for the transition to the next generation. K-State director of Office of Farm and Ranch Transition Ashlee Westerhold says that a 2012 Harvard Business School study found that 70% of family-owned businesses fail to transition to new owners successfully. The Sunset Zoo has a new tiger at their zoo. Marketing and development officer Melissa Kirkwood spoke about the new tiger on In Focus. Jaya is a Malayan tiger and comes from the Little Rock Zoo in Arkansas after spending almost the last two years at that zoo. Jaya moved into the zoo on Jan. 16. In Aug. 2022, he fathered three cubs with a female tiger. According to Little Rock Zoo staff, Jaya is a very laid back and mellow cat. Manhattan City Commissioners were presented with a slew of plans Tuesday aimed at creating more housing in Manhattan. City staff presented potential strategies toward addressing housing challenges through Rural Housing Incentive Districts, Industrial Revenue Bonds, Moderate Income Housing grants and the city’s workforce housing sales tax. The 2023 Economic Recovery and Relief Sales Tax is dedicated 70% to debt and infrastructure, 20% to jobs and 10% to workforce housing. The current Economic Development Policies focus on the 20% dedicated to jobs.
