The USD 383 Manhattan-Ogden School Board reviewed the annual fall enrollment report Wednesday. Assistant Superintendent Nathan Downs says the district has seen an increase in students from the previous school year. The school district has seen about a 0.7% increase in students from last school year. Downs says that the distribution of students in the individual schools within the district is pretty even, saying that one of the elementary schools was an outlier, adding just one student from last year. The Alzheimer’s Association held its seventh annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday in Manhattan. Over 300 participants were on hand, including members of the K-State Baseball team and the Sigma Kappa-Theta Tau sorority. MollyPatt Eyestone says that the fundraising walk is the highest per capita walk in the state of Kansas. Eyestone says the foundation has raised over $67,000 and were looking to get at least $100,000 in donations. A former USD 383 paraeducator was sentenced to prison for child sex crimes in Riley County District Court on Thursday. 32-year-old Aaron Zachry was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison on single counts of indecent liberties with a child and sexual exploitation of a child. Zachry is eligible for parole after 25 years. The terms will be served concurrently. Zachry had initially pleaded not guilty to 37 counts last December but following revelations he was facing similar charges in Geary and Pottawatomie County, he agreed to a current plea bargain charging him with the two counts.
