K-State checks in at number 31 in the first AP poll of the college football seaosn. The Wildcats are receiving 43 votes in the poll, which is good for sixth in the Big 12. Oklahoma State is the highest ranked team in the league at number 13, followed closely by Texas and Oklahoma at 15 and 16. TCU is ranked 20th and Baylor 27th after receiving 92 votes. K-State’s Big 12/SEC Challenge game against Ole Miss will be show on ESPN2 and tip off at 8 P.M. on Thursday, December 5th inside Bramlage Coliseum. All ten of the match ups in the challenge will air on the ESPN family of networks. This is the fifth scheduled appearance so far during the 2013-14 season for K-State on ESPN2. Ole Miss had one of it’s best seasons in school history last year, winning 27 games and advancing to the NCAA tournament’s third round. They also won the SEC tournament championship. K-State’s 15th known commitment for the 2014 recruiting class is a big one. The Wildcats got a commitment late Wednesday night from D’Vonta Derricott, a 6-2, 215 pound linebacker from Garden City Junior College. Derricott announced his decision on twitter. The Big 12 released it’s conference men’s basketball schedule Thursday, just weeks after K-State finalized it’s non-conference schedule. K-State will start conference play on January 4th at home against Oklahoma State. The Wildcats then play at Kansas a week later with a road trip to TCU sandwiched between the two Big 12 favorites. The schedule then lightens up back-to-back home games against West Virginia and Oklahoma. K-State will play two games on ESPN’s “Big Monday” during the 2013-14 basketball season. The first is on February 10th when the Wildcats host the Kansas Jayhawks inside Bramlage Coliseum, and the second is a road trip to Oklahoma State on March 3rd. The Wildcats went 1-1 last season in “Big Monday” games, losing 83-62 at Kansas and beating West Virginia 71-61 in Manhattan. K-State has rewarded baseball head coach Brad Hill for a Big 12 championship season with a five-year contract that will last through the 2018 season. Hill’s base salary will increase from $220,000 to $265,000 in 2013-14, and with retention incentives Hill is guaranteed $1.735 million over the life of the contract. The contract’s average compensation is $292,000 over that five year period. Hill led the Wildcats to a program-best 45 wins and the first ever Super Regional in K-State history this past season. The Wildcats won a Big 12 championship along the way, their first conference title in 80 years.…
