A bill changing state sales and income tax policy that would reduce state revenue by more than $100 million dollars was approved by the Kansas House Friday, but faces a likely veto from Gov. Laura Kelly. A few roads will be closed around town starting Tuesday, March 12 for repairs, according to City of Manhattan Public Works. One eastbound lane of McCall Road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a utility project. And at the beginning of the project, a westbound lane will be closed during those hours as well. Original Story: The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 23 year old suspect in connection with the death of 19-year-old Jacob Bouck, according to a Thursday release. Cody Lamia-Beck of Wamego was arrested Wednesday under suspicion of 2nd degree murder by Pott County detectives following an investigation aided by the KBI and surrounding agencies. MANHATTAN — The Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 Board of Education received a quick update on the planning for the new elementary school. Board Member Karla Hagemeister says the elementary building is the first bond project they will tackle. The group is made of members from the Facilities and Growth Committee, BHS Hutton, and district level staff who will be moving into this new building. LAWRENCE — The president of Haskell Indian Nations University who has been away on special assignment for four months won’t be returning to the president’s job. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that Venida Chenault will work in the Office of Research, Policy and Post-secondary Education with the Bureau of Indian Education, according to Nedra Darling, director of the public affairs office of the assistant secretary for the Indian Affairs Department.
