Police on Monday investigated a threat of violence at Wamego High School but determined it was unfounded, according to a Wamego Police Department post on social media. Police learned of a group chat mentioning violence at the school before the day began Monday and stationed additional officers at district schools while others investigated. Junction City police have arrested a juvenile for making threats directed at Junction City Middle School students and staff. According to a release from Junction City Police Department spokesperson Cadin Sanner, officers on Tuesday identified and arrested the juvenile believed to be responsible for a Snapchat post Friday that included a list of names of USD 475 students and names. That social media activity came after a TikTok post that made shooting threats against the middle school on Sept. 11 as part of a larger trend targeting schools across the state. A Manhattan man was injured in an accident just before 1:30p.m. Sunday in Manhattan. According to the Riley County Police Department, a 2018 Hyundai driven by Cody Copeland, 23, Manhattan, failed to yield right of way at the intersection of Pillsbury Drive and McDowell Creek Road. The vehicle struck a 2006 Yamana motorcycle driven by Corey Kirkwood, 38, Manhattan. EMS transported Kirkwood to Via Christi for treatment of his injuries. Copeland was issued a citation. RCPD released no additional details.

The Riley County commission on Monday unanimously approved a 20-year loan from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s State Revolving Fund to cover any costs of the project beyond what other funding sources already have covered. K-State on Friday reported that a student had tested positive for tuberculosis. The student is undergoing medical treatment and is isolating according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, officials said in a written statement. They said K-State is working closely with the Riley County Health Department to identify any people who had prolonged contact with the person who may need to be tested as a precaution.
