WICHITA, Kan.  – The Purple & Black – Kansas State’s men’s basketball alumni team – returns to action in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) starting on Thursday night (July 20) against the DaGuys STL at 6 p.m., CT in the Wichita Regional at Koch Arena. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2. Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased here. The Basketball Tournament is a $1 million winner-take-all summer tournament featuring former college and professional athletes. During their Tuesday meeting, the Manhattan City Commission unanimously approved a request to construct a frontage road west of Denison Avenue and north of Kimball Avenue to accommodate the North Campus Corridor project. City Engineer Brian Johnson said the proposal of this new road comes after their initial plans for Denison and Kimball were thrown off by a KDOT delay. Johnson explained that completing the frontage road this year would jumpstart the Denison and Kimball road construction, allowing the latter to be open before KDOT begins their project. Laura Kelly’s arguments that a new Kansas law rolling back transgender rights doesn’t bar the state from changing the sex listing on transgender people’s birth certificates. U.S. District Judge Daniel Crabtree ruled Tuesday that Kelly’s office can defend her administration’s policy of changing birth certificates and accepted its “friend of the court” arguments. Officers filed a theft by deception report Monday evening in Manhattan after a 23-year-old woman reported she sent a $500 deposit to a 25-year-old male suspect to buy a dog. A state grant totaling $2.35 million has been awarded to start a Childcare Business Accelerator project in Manhattan. The project is a collaborative effort by the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation, the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce and Ascension Via Christi. A total of $2.1 million will be dedicated to constructing a new facility, with $250,000 dedicated to programmatic expenses. A Manhattan man was arrested Monday on a Riley County warrant for probation violation. According to the Riley County Police Department, the warrant against 27-year-old Erick Chavez stems from original charges of child endangerment, interference with parental custody and domestic battery. Chavez was also arrested for interference with law enforcement, and drug possession charges after police say he fled from officers on a bicycle and on foot. He was apprehended in the 1000 block of Kearney Street. He remains jailed on a $15,000 bond.

Kansas State University says Saturday’s open house for the Tracz Family Band Hall has been postponed. The event will be rescheduled at a later date. The band hall, named for longtime director of bands Dr. Frank Tracz, is located in the northwest wing of the World War I Memorial Stadium. The location places the marching band indoor rehearsal space adjacent to their outdoor rehearsal space. The band will utilize the new space this year.
