Officers conducted a search warrant in the 1200 block of Yuma St. in Manhattan on June 6, 2023, around 3:15 p.m. As a result of the search warrant, we arrested Daneille Sullivan, 32, and Christina Hurley, 42, both of Manhattan. Both were arrested for possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia. Hurley remains confined with a total bond of $4,000, Sullivan was issued a total bond of $2,000 and is no longer confined at the time of this report. A joint active violence training exercise will take place over three days next week. The RCPD and Emergency personell from the Manhattan Fire Department, Riley County EMS and other emergency service partners will participate. The training will take place from July 10th to July 12 at the Amanda Arnold Elementary School. Signs will be placed near the training scenario to remind the community there is no danger to the public. At Thursday’s Riley County Commission meeting, Human Resource Director Elizabeth Ward proposed an 8% COLA adjustment and a merit increase, with an average of 2.14%. Commissioner John Ford commented on this adjustment. Commissioner Kathryn Focke suggested a smaller change. At issue is the inflation rate and uncertainty of the current economic situation. Commissioners remarked that neighboring counties have equal or higher wages for thier employees. The merit increse would have an impact of $443,000. The proposed COLA increase would increase the budget by $2.6 million. The merit increase and COLA increase would bring the total payroll to $30 million.

A man was arrested in Manhattan on Wednesday for theft at the 1000 block of south Seth Child Road in Manhattan 79-year-old Edward Doyle was arrested just before noon on one count of theft of property of services with a value between $1,500 and $25,000. The charge also includes All Other Larceny, meaning the theft likely occurred from a fenced enclosure. He was booked into Riley County Jail and released on a $2,000 bond shortly after the arrest.

A structure fire caused by remnants of the fourth of July festivities took place Wednesday. According to Riley County Fire District Number 1, responders were dispatched to 12261 Walnut Creek in northern Riley County around midnight Wednesday morning for report of a structure fire at the home of Wazir and Neomi Mohammed. Upon arrival, crews discovered a garage fully engulfed in flames, extending into the attic of the home. After an aggressive attack by 24 firefighters, the blaze was fully extinguished.
