Kansas Tourism partners with a variety of attractions all over Kansas — including Riley County — for the yearly event, and features some “limited opportunities” for activities restricted to certain days of the summer. These excursions include Broadway RFD in Lindsborg, Great Plains Theatre in Abilene, Theatre in the Park in Shawnee and Wichita Wind Surge in Wichita. By Megan Moser Sen. Roger Marshall on Tuesday said he doesn’t expect to see more federal funding cuts like the ones that affected the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility in February. However, he said the process of getting the lab fully operational has taken too long. As part of sweeping Department of Agriculture cuts, the White House and its Department of Governmental Efficiency in February fired and subsequently rehired dozens of employees at the Manhattan-based NBAF, a federal lab studying high-risk animal diseases. Pottawatomie County authorities are investigating a pair of injury accidents that occurred early Thursday morning. Deputies responded around 6:50 a.m. to a report of a rollover accident near Highway 99 and Kerr Road, north of Westmoreland. According to a release from Sheriff Doug Adams, the driver, 21-year-old Trevor Harbolt, of Frankfort, was transported by Pottawatomie County EMS to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. In a deal reached with the county attorney’s office, a Manhattan teen on Tuesday entered a guilty plea to robbery in Riley County District Court. Sixteen-year-old Miles Ellner’s defense attorney, Christopher Biggs, and Riley County attorneys recommend a sentence of probation, but Ellner faces a possible sentence of nine to 18 months in a juvenile corrections facility. Fort Riley officials announced Tuesday that, following a directive from the U.S. Army, it is concluding operations of the Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard to align more resources with warfighting capability and readiness. Officials confirmed they will work diligently to find suitable homes for the horses and will keep the community informed throughout the transition.
