The Kansas Volleyball Association released its preseason rankings this week, as voted on by member coaches, with Manhattan High and Rock Creek both entering 2025 among the top teams in their respective classes. Manhattan After finishing fourth at last year’s Class 6A state tournament, Manhattan High volleyball opens the season ranked No. 7 in the Class 6A poll. By Rose Gruenbacher Attorneys for the prosecution and defense of Clark Petersen made closing statements Wednesday in the Riley County district court trial for charges alleging Petersen sexually abused 19 women who were former patients of his. A former Manhattan chiropractor, Petersen, 66, was arrested in August 2023 for 19 charges, which by the beginning of trial grew to 64 counts, ranging from rape to aggravated sexual battery to aggravated criminal sodomy. A California man was arrested Wednesday morning by the Riley County Police Department after being extradited from California. Ivan Krdzic, 36, of Santa Rosa, was arrested at 9:05 a.m. for two counts of aggravated kidnapping and criminal threat causing terror, evacuation or disruption. He is held in Riley County Jail on a $200,000 bond. RCPD representatives said the warrant stems from two reports filed in June.  A document filed with the Riley County District Court lists a victim born in 1991 for all three counts. A Manhattan teen was arrested by Riley County Police officers for multiple charges, including attempted murder, at 1:27 p.m. on Wednesday in the 1300 block of Vattier Street. Chase Alan Meinholdt, 19, was arrested for attempted first degree murder; intentional and premeditated, aggravated robbery inflicting bodily harm, aggravated battery with a weapon, burglary of a vehicle, distribution of 25 to less than 450 grams of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia with the intent to manufacture a controlled substance and use/possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia. A Manhattan man is behind bars after Riley County Police say he hit someone and stole a vape pen. Nineteen-year-old Jakyieh Burney was arrested Wednesday night on charges of aggravated robbery, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police say the case stems from an incident Tuesday evening in the 500 block of Osage Street, between Burney and two individuals, including a 24-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man. Riley County Police are asking for the public’s help after a string of vehicle burglaries in southwest Manhattan. Authorities say cars were targeted between Saturday and Tuesday on Wilson, De Hoff, Davis and Gillespie Drives. Residents in that area are urged to check security or doorbell cameras and send any video evidence to Detective Horne at mhorne@rileycountypolice.org.
