A fire caused a loss of more than $50,000 to a garage on the east side of Manhattan Wednesday morning. The fire at 2017 Green Ave. started in the 1996 Ford Bronco parked in the detached garage and spread to the rest of the structure. The Manhattan Fire Department dispatched crews a 11:27 a.m., and on arrival they found heavy smoke showing from the garage. Twelve firefighters on three trucks contained the fire within 10 minutes, and the last units cleared out around 1:30 p.m. To view the full story visit theMercury.com.

A Manhattan man sustained life-threatening injuries after another man shot him in apparent self-defense in the parking lot of the Douglass Center Wednesday evening. Riley County Police Department spokeswoman Ashley Tokoi said in a written release officers responded to the report of shots fired in the 900 block of Yuma Street around 7:57 p.m. When they arrived, they found a 23-year-old man shot in the parking lot. Tokoi said RCPD’s early investigation points to the shooter being a 26-year-old man who acted in self-defense. RCPD responded to the scene of a shooting in the 900 block of Yuma Street on Wednesday around 9 p.m. The department posted on Facebook that one person was shot and transported to Via Christi for treatment of their injuries. It was believed to be an isolated incident and there were no additional details available. Officers also believe that there is no active threat to the public. The road was blocked off for several hours and as more details emerge, stay tune to News Radio KMAN.
