Starting July 5th, bridge construction will kick off to replace a bridge on Havensville Road, approximately three-quarters of a mile east of Onaga Road and between Sunflower Road and Trails End Road. This project will replace an over 90-year-old bridge. It was determined that repairs to the deteriorating bridge substructure would be more expensive than replacing the bridge entirely. The bridge was selected by KDOT to receive funding in the amount of $455,000. Police are investigating a report of aggravated assault, battery and disorderly conduct following an incident Tuesday evening at a Manhattan apartment complex swimming pool. According to the Riley County Police Department, a 22-year-old man reportedly threw a 21-year-old woman into the pool at the District Apartments in the 1400 block of Chase Place. After getting out, the woman reportedly punched the man. Then, a short time later, a separate 22-year-old man reportedly pulled a handgun on the woman and threatened her. No further information was immediately available.

Manhattan City Commissioners continued their budget discussions during Tuesday’s work session and reviewed multiple funding requests from outside agencies. Of all agencies requesting funds, the Flint Hills Area Transportation on Agency had the ask with the highest percentage increase of 105%. This would bring the ATA’s funds from $143,000 in 2023 to $293,000. ATA Executive Director Anne Smith said this request is high, but feels the economic contributions made by ATA help warrant the increase. Riley County Police have made three additional arrests tied to ongoing fentanyl distribution in the community. According to Tuesday’s arrest report, 59-year-old Ronald Ince is charged with three counts including distribution of a controlled substance, causing death. An online criminal complaint alleges Ince contributed to the August 2021 overdose death of a victim. Two others, including 21-year-old Daron Jones and 21-year-old Caziah Self face distribution charges, causing great bodily harm, with Jones facing two counts and Self facing a single count. One person was hospitalized Monday evening following an accidental shooting in the 7100 block of Anderson Ave. Riley County Police say officers responded just after 10 p.m. and found a 36-year-old woman suffering from ricochet shrapnel wounds to the head and face that occurred while a 39-year-old man she was with was shooting at racoons. The woman, who’s name was not released, was transported to Ascension Via Christi for treatment of her non-life-threatening injuries.

One person was hospitalized and another person was cited following a rollover crash Monday morning near the intersection of Tuttle Creek Blvd. and McCall Road. A U.S. Postal Service vehicle driven by 51-year-old Tina Kufahl, of Manhattan was northbound on Tuttle Creek Blvd, when it was struck by a vehicle turning right off of McCall, causing it to flip over and hit a third vehicle. Kufahl was transported for treatment of unknown injuries. The driver of the vehicle that struck the mail truck was cited.

The Riley County Police Department is investigating after a 24-year-old man was battered early Sunday morning in the 500 block of North Manhattan Ave. The victim told police a group of four unknown men punched and kicked him, causing his eyeglasses to break, before fleeing the scene. The incident occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. The victim was transported to Ascension Via Christi for treatment of head and neck pain. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
