WICHITA — Authorities say a 25-year-old man has been arrested in a deadly shooting at a Wichita nightclub. The Wichita Eagle reports that jail records show that the suspect has been booked on suspicion of first-degree murder. He is accused in the early Sunday shooting of a 24-year-old man in the parking lot of Vixen’s Erotic Sports Bar on the city’s south side. Lt. Aaron Estabrook announced he will “move ahead full-throttle” into a write-in campaign for the District 1 seat of the Riley County Commission on Monday night. He is competing against Republican John Ford, who will be the sole candidate on the November ballot for the seat. Estabrook entered a petition as an Independent candidate, but had his petition rejected last week. Estabrook said 195 of the signatures he collected were thrown out, bringing him to 320 accepted petition signatures – short of the 408 required to be included on the November ballot. Multiple people were injured in a boat crash at Tuttle Creek Lake Saturday night. A Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism official who was at the scene of the crash told KSNT it happened around 10:00 p.m. A family boat crashed into rocks at the reservoir, injuring those on board. Everyone on the boat was reportedly accounted for and taken to a local hospital. Two of the occupants are still in the hospital. No one was killed in the crash, but it is unknown if their injuries are life-threatening. The boat was removed from the lake and returned to family members.
HUTCHINSON — A Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center class has a record number of women. The Hutchinson News reports that 15 of the 58 people in Class 252 are women. It’s the most women the center has trained in a single class since it started operating at the formal naval base in rural Reno County in 1968. The 14-week course features classroom training as well as hands-on experience. Students then become certified law enforcement officers. SALINA — Authorities are investigating after a 4-year-old boy fired a semi-automatic handgun into a living room chair at his home. Salina police Capt. Mike Sweeney reports that two adults were home Thursday when the weapon was fired. The Salina Journal reports that no one was injured. Police are investigating how the boy got the gun. Sweeney says the case is being referred to the county attorney for possible charges of child endangerment.
