County tax payers will see a 2.856 mill levy decrease in the General Fund for 2025, which is a drop of $2,311,044 in ad valorem taxes levied. The 2025 General Fund includes a 4.5 percent cost of living raise for employees ($610,476 gross), two additional commissioner positions ($173,793 benefit wage), a Road and Bridge Mechanic position ($112,056 benefit wage), and an Assistant Road and Bridge Supervisor position ($121,327 benefit wage). By Emma Loura/Manhattan Mercury Julie Gibbs is no longer the Riley County health director. County officials confirmed Friday that Gibbs was not employed by the county as of Aug. 29. They would not give details about the circumstances of her departure. Riley County fiscal analyst Shelley Hays also ceased employment with the county on that date. Officers filed a report of theft and battery on an LEO on September 6, 2024, at approximately 8:53 AM in the 1100 block of Bluemont Ave. Officers arrested listed the victim as a 47-year-old officer. Ashleigh Speaks, 31, of Manhattan, was arrested on the aforementioned probable cause offenses. Total bond was set at $2,000. She was confined at the time of this report. Senior quarterback Carter Aslin, Manhattan’s returning signal caller who ran over 1,400 yards last season, went 5-of-8 through the air for 142 yards and two passing touchdown.
