TOPEKA — The Kansas Health System is seeking an exemption from a state law that that would allow adults to carry concealed handguns in its medical school and attached hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. Officials from the health system testified Thursday before the House Federal and State Affairs Committee. Without the exemption, the hospital and medical school will be required to allow concealed weapons in its buildings on July 1, unless it provides security measures. JACKSON, Miss.-Two suspects in a Mississippi pawn shop robbery that left three people dead are back in the state after being captured in Junction City last month. News outlets report 35-year-old Jamison Townsend and 37-year-old Joshua Garcia face three counts of capital murder in the Dec. 17 shooting deaths at Bill’s Pawn Jewelry Coin/Stamp Exchange in Jackson. Police say 81-year-old Cleveland Mosley, 60-year-old Robert Ivy and 77-year-old Ted McLemore were killed during the robbery. Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted a local law enforcement agency in a domestic battery arrest. According to a report released Thursday by the Saint George Police Department, officers were dispatched to 220 6th St in Saint George for a physical domestic disturbance in progress. While en route, officers were advised the male subject was armed with a baseball bat. The Saint George Police Department arrived within 20-seconds and upon arrival, the parties were separated and an investigation ensued. A state park in the Flint Hills recently received some recognition for improving health and wellness of Kansas residents.  Tuttle Creek State Park was named as one of the recipients of the BlueChip award, which is a $2,500 grant awarded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas and the Kansas Recreation and Park Association. Tuttle Creek is one of five entities that was recognized at a recent luncheon in Manhattan. Other recipients include the cities of Derby, Baldwin City, Lindsborg, Wellington, and Shawnee County.
