SHAWNEE — A court document indicates that a Kansas man charged with stabbing a woman to death says he did so because she had threatened to tell everyone he had HIV. Ronald Lee Kidwell is charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of 43-year-old MeShon Cooper, who was missing for a week until her body was found July 14 at Kidwell’s home in Shawnee. TOPEKA — Authorities say three men have been arrested in a double homicide in Topeka. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that a 19- and 31-year-old were booked into the Shawnee County Jail on suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder and aggravated burglary. The third suspect, who is 40, was booked on suspicion of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Police spokesman Lt. Andrew Beightel said Tuesday morning that the victims had been stabbed and beaten to death. They were pronounced dead Monday at a residence in city’s Hi-Crest neighborhood after paramedics arrived. Riley County Public Works will begin a series of road improvement projects this week. Workers will be chip sealing roads around the county starting July 23. LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas says its new bike-share service has seen a booming start. So much so that more bikes will be added to the fleet this fall. KU’s Center for Sustainability says in a new report that 12,000 rides totaling more than 5,000 miles (8,046 kilometers) have been taken by students and faculty since the April launch of VeoRide.
